TriesteAntiqua: the traditional annual date with quality antiques
The fair will be open to the public for six days, covering the long-weekend of “All Saints”. There is a significant increase in the number of high-level exhibitors, many of whom will be coming from abroad. For many of them it will be their first time here in Trieste. These are the principal facts about the 23rd edition of TRIESTEANTIQUA, the Antique Market Exhibition that will be presented from Thursday 27th October to Tuesday 1st November in the prestigious backdrop of the Palazzo dei Congressi (Congress Centre) in the Stazione Marittima in Trieste. It is now a well-established tradition that, between the last week-end of October and the beginning of November, the unmissable appointment with the quality antiques to be found at TRIESTEANTIQUA, Trieste becomes a magnet for all the lovers of art and history, coming from all the neighbouring regions, including from over the immediate borders and countries further afield. TRIESTEANTIQUA, which takes place in the prestigious Palazzo dei Congressi of the Stazione Marittima, organised and promoted by the Promotrieste Consortium, enjoys the support and patronage of the Camera di Commercio (Chamber of Commerce), from the Autonomous Region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, from the Province, from the Comune (city council) and the Trieste Tourist Board, together with the Associazione Antiquari del Friuli-Venezia Giulia (FVG Antiquarian’s Association), which this year is present with twenty members. Thanks to the unstinting and thorough work of pre-networking in the foreign countries that Consorzio Promotrieste has been carriyng out since the completion of the 2004 edition of the exhibition, with the help of Camera di Commercio di Trieste, of the Consulates and the Associazione Spedizionieri Doganali (association of international shippers), this year the presence of foreign antique dealers is particularly significant. Together with the traditional presence of the art dealers from the Austrian region of Styria and especially from Graz, also those comig from Vienna will stress the international appeal of this fair and, for the first time, there will a presence in Italy of those coming from Slovenia (Lubiana), from Hungary (Budapest) and hopefully from Serbia (Belgrado). Also the partecipation of local professionals from Trieste willl be of a particularly high level this year, and it will also be numerous thanks to the active cooperation of the local Antiquarian’s Association, as they see TRIESTEANTIQUA as the main event of the year, and as a precious showcase that allows the participants to establish new contacts with collectors and art merchants both nationally and abroad, and therefore as a valuable boost for their business. TRIESTEANTIQUA, is organized on a “limited number” basis, like the most important international exhibitions of this type, as this guarantees the selection of the best antique dealers and art merchants and that of the highest quality standards of the “items” presented. Thus, this year TRIESTEANTIQUA has already almost filled all the exhibition spaces - and this happened largely before the deadline for applying for the exhibition spaces which will be offered in the exhibition halls on the two floors of Stazione Marittima, which looks out to sea like the perfect showcase that it is, being only two minutes walk from the heart of the old town. With this in mind, the antique market exhibition will become another significant confirmation for Trieste of its proper role as capital of the antique dealing: according to the statistics, the “City of the Halberd”, is the one that, per head of population, is home to the highest number of art shops and art dealers. Just consider that the whole historical quarter of the Città Vecchia (old town) is one big showcase of beautiful objects from bygone days, with its galleries, artisans, second-hand shops and long-established jewelleries. All of the above makes the local public too particularly qualified and demanding, and therefore pushes up the quality level of the exhibition TRIESTEANTIQUA even more. As it has become a tradition, the visitors will be spoilt for choice among the thousands of items on offer, many of which could well be museum pieces, yet they are on sale, maybe even at a very favourable price, and from the sectors that are most interesting for the most attentive and demanding members of the public. One can find a selection which ranges from furniture to silver, from jewellery to paintings, from drawings to prints, from sculptures to objects d’ art all coming from the 1600s to the 1900s; but also carpets, wallhangings and tapestries, ceramics and oriental masterpieces. On the day of the opening, Thursday 27th October the antique market exhibition will be opened to the public from 18.00 to 22.00.On all the other days, until Tuesday 1st November, it will be open non-stop from 10.00 to 20.00. The price for the entrance is 8 euros (full price) and 6 euros (concessions). In order to facilitate the planning of a visit to the 23rd edition of this important antique market exhibition during your stay in Trieste, especially on the occasion of the long weekend of All Saints, this year some important travel agents (Key Tre Viaggi and Magesta Incentives from Trieste and I.O.T. Viaggi from Gorizia) and some four-star hotels in Trieste (Jolly Hotel Cavour, Starhotels Savoia Excelsior Palace) and a three-star hotel (Best Western Hotel San Giusto), have prepared various offers, all of which are very attractive. One should not forget that there are discounts on the entry ticket for the antique market exhibition, both for the card T for You 2005 holders, and also for those who reach Trieste by train (showing a train ticket the entrance will be 6 euros instead of 8 euros).
